About QINGCHEN

Not everything needs to become a product.

QINGCHEN is a private studio in Dali, Yunnan. For now, we work mainly with clothing and natural fibres, while making room for objects, spaces and time together.

This is not an online shop. The website is simply an introduction—a way for people we have yet to meet to get to know our work before deciding whether to visit us in Dali.

A waterside pavilion and mountain in Dali

01 · Place

Between Cangshan and Erhai, work and life flow into one another.

Wind, light, wood, food and the people who visit give the studio its measure. Dali is not a backdrop; it shapes how the work comes into being.

02 · Works

Made sparingly. Worn for years.

We care about how cloth falls, moves and settles on the body, rather than chasing one style after another. Every garment leaves room for alteration, repair and years of wear.

03 · Hand & material

Cloth bears the marks of time. So does the hand.

Knots in the fibre, creases after washing and the small variations left by hand are not flaws to hide. They are part of how a piece slowly becomes someone’s own.

04 · Visit

First, we get to know one another. The garment comes later.

We welcome a small number of visits, by arrangement. We drink tea, talk about clothes and may share a meal. We share the time and address once we have agreed on the visit.

Studio note

The wind returns from Erhai

Afternoon light falls across washed linen. Once again, we see how little a garment truly needs.

Garments & time

On an old garment

The marks left by wear are not the end of a piece. Repairing it, adjusting it and wearing it for many more years are part of the work we want to continue.

Life in Dali

The dining table is also a worktable

Drawings, loose threads and a pot of tea often share the same table. When a visitor sits down, work becomes time spent together.
